Description
Learn how to fight off financial scam artists and other swindlers at an upcoming forum in East County for seniors and caregivers.
The special “Don’t Get Hooked” presentation, led by county Supervisor Dianne Jacob, will be held Nov. 1 at 9 a.m. at Skyline Church, 11330 Campo Rd., La Mesa.
To register for the free, two-hour forum, call 844-899-1597 or go to www.surveymonkey.com/r/dontgethooked.
Speakers will include many of the region’s top experts on elder abuse and financial crimes, including Sheriff’s Department Det. Maureen Perkins and Deputy District Attorney Paul Greenwood.
“Our goal is to arm seniors and caregivers with critical information on how to avoid swindlers and other rip-off artists,” said Supervisor Jacob. “Scammers see the elderly as easy marks, but we want to prove these crooks wrong.”
Experts from county Aging and Independence Services and the Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk's office will also be on hand to offer advice and answer questions.
Event check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. A free continental breakfast will be offered.
This is the fourth “Don’t Get Hooked” event held in Jacob’s District 2 since she teamed up with the District Attorney’s Office in 2015 to bring more attention to the issue of senior scams.
