SUMMARY:Free Heart Screening for Teens During National CPR/AED Week
DESCRIPTION:The Eric Paredes Save A Life Foundation urges teens 12 to 19 to attend a free cardiac screening during National CPR and AED Awareness Week at Granite Hills High School (1719 E. Madison Ave.\, El Cajon) Sunday\, June 1 from 9 am to 3 pm to check for heart abnormalities that could put them at risk for Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)\, a silent killer of 7\,000 kids annually. SCA can strike without warning signs - the first symptom is often death due to an undetected heart condition that could be revealed with a simple EKG\, but EKGs are not a part of regular physicals. The screening\, which includes a health history\, EKG\, and echocardiogram if indicated\, is absolutely painless and noninvasive (no needles or x-rays)\, and takes less than 30 minutes. The EP Save A Life Foundation has screened nearly 11\,000 teens since 2010\, identifying 1 in 100 at risk for SCA. Screenings also feature demonstrations of hand-only CPR and AED use the only life-saving measures for an SCA victim. Screening participants enjoy samples from Jersey Mike's Subs and a free sub card while supplies last. Parents register their teen at EPSaveALife.org and download a screening packet that is signed and brought to the event. For more information\, visit EPSaveALife.org.
