DESCRIPTION:MANA de SAN DIEGO is honored to lead a collaborative effort between local health agencies and programs to celebrate the Sixth Annual San Diego ''Día de la Mujer Latina'' Heath Festival on Saturday\, November 7th\, 2009. There will be a wide range of health services (booths)\, like: cancer prevention and control\, environmental health\, diabetes and domestic violence\, plus live entertainment\, food\, prizes and children's activities throughout the day.  \nWHAT:	Breast exams/mammograms (for low income women over 40 with limited or no medical insurance). Testing for cholesterol/glucose\, eye exams\, HIV/AIDS\, health development tests for children 4 months to five years old. The exams will be offered under first come - first served basis\, plus activities for children. \nWHY:	-Latinos have the highest uninsured rates than any racial or ethnic group in the United\nStates\, and they are three times more likely to be uninsured than other ethnic group.\n*Source: Strategies for Improving Latino Healthcare in America\, Report of the Latino Healthcare Taskforce. \n-Hundreds of medically underserved Latinas will receive cancer screening and other medical services that would have been otherwise unattainable.\nAbout Día de la Mujer Latina\, Inc.: This health festival was founded in Atlanta in 1997 by Venus Ginés and has organized a successful annual health fiesta in an effort to eliminate health disparities among Latinos.  This one-day culturally appropriate health fiesta is currently being replicated in 15 states and in Puerto Rico.  In San Diego\, the event builds and expands on the annual health fairs that MANA de San Diego has spearheaded since 1999.\n\nAbout MANA: Originally founded in 1974\, the Mexican-American National Association (MANA) is a non-profit organization with a goal to eliminate social and economic challenges facing Latinas.
