The Sunrise Award
Regardless of the events of the day before, every day, the sun returns and rises in the East. The sunrise brings warmth and light with it signaling the beginning of a new day and all the promise that a new day holds.
The East County School Leadership Charter of the Association of California School Administrators recognizes that each day we have students who rise above the challenges presented to them and come back each day to succeed and to bring warmth and light to those around them.
Selection Criteria: Two students (2 per district) will be selected and honored by administrators from their school or district. Students who have shown strength, improvement, resiliency, etc. in areas such as overcoming mental or physical barriers, improving academic achievement, improving attendance, rising above personal challenges are the focus.
For many students in our East County schools, that sunrise is more than symbolic. It represents resilience, courage, and the decision to keep showing up despite real challenges.
This spring, the East County School Leadership Charter of the Association of California School Administrators will host the 4th Annual Sunrise Awards, a celebration honoring students who rise above adversity — students who overcome personal, academic, mental, or physical challenges and return each day determined to succeed and uplift others.
On April 29, 2026 at 6:00 PM at the Grossmont Union High School Event Center, we will recognize these extraordinary young people and provide cash scholarships funded entirely by community donations.
We are inviting trusted local businesses like yours to partner with us as a sponsor.
Your support will:
• Provide direct student scholarships (100% of funds go to awards)
• Recognize and celebrate student resilience and growth
• Demonstrate your commitment to local youth and public education
• Connect your business with families, educators, and community leaders across East County
Past scholarships have been $250 each. This year, our goal is to provide each student a $500 cash award. We welcome sponsorships and donations at any level and are happy to recognize partners through event acknowledgements, program acknowledgments, and community promotion. Donations are tax-deductible, and checks may be made payable to ACSA ECSLC. The donation deadline is April 1, 2026.
When local businesses invest in students, the entire community grows stronger.
