Description

Assemblymember Chris Ward represents California’s 78th Assembly District, which includes San Diego and El Cajon. First elected in 2020, he serves as Chair of the Assembly Committee on Arts, Entertainment, Sports, and Tourism and Chair of the California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus, as well as leading the Select Committee on Biotechnology and Medical Technology. A proven leader on housing access, homelessness, climate action, and responsible budgeting, Ward has authored landmark legislation to launch California’s first community solar program, curb ghost guns, and strengthen behavioral health and government transparency. Before joining the Assembly, he served on the San Diego City Council, where he championed the city’s Equal Pay Ordinance and chaired the Regional Task Force on the Homeless. Ward holds degrees from Johns Hopkins University and Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and lives in University Heights with his family.
