Description
Learn about what it takes to become a Rolling Reader Read Aloud volunteer. Volunteers inspire at risk children to love reading by reading weekly to K-3 classrooms in San Diego’s low income communities. Please call (619) 516-4095 to reserve your seat. Learn more at www.rollingreaders.org. Rolling Readers are needed for Chase Avenue and Anza Elementary School.
Rolling Readers is celebrating its 20th Anniversary of rolling into classrooms in 2011-12. In these 20 years, we have given nearly 500,000 books to children; for many this was their very first book. Children have heard stories read aloud for an estimated 6,480,000[1] minutes or 12.5 years. And, throughout the United States, organizations and individuals committed to inspiring children to love reading through owning their own books and hearing books read aloud call themselves Rolling Readers—named after us, the first Rolling Reader organization.
Founded in 1991, Rolling Readers is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. This past year, 4,750 low-income at-risk children in San Diego heard a book read aloud every week by a Rolling Reader volunteer. More than 11,000 brand new books were given to children to take home and cherish.
[1] Estimate calculated using 300 readers reading for 30 minutes each week for 36 weeks for 20 years.
